Outdoor Rated Barn Doors

Explore outdoor-rated barn doors for exterior sliding applications. Compare the Stable, Half X, Double X and Full X designs, then coordinate the door, finish and rolling hardware with the opening’s exposure and the way the space will be used.

Details make the difference

Built for the setting you have in mind

Outdoor-rated sliding doors need a coordinated door, hardware and mounting plan. An outdoor rating does not make every sliding assembly a sealed exterior entry system.

What does an outdoor-rated barn door need to do?

A sliding door on a detached storage opening has different needs from a door enclosing conditioned living space. Outdoor suitability concerns the materials, finish and hardware, while rain, drafts and security depend on the complete opening. A panel still needs operating clearances to slide. Describe the exposure and intended use when comparing exterior barn doors so the assembly is selected for the actual project.

Pair the panel with appropriate barn door hardware. If the project needs a weather-sealed residential entrance, also compare front entry doors before deciding that sliding operation is the best fit.

Before you choose

Is an outdoor-rated barn door automatically weatherproof?

No. Outdoor suitability does not by itself establish an airtight or watertight assembly. The track layout, perimeter clearances, seals, threshold and installation all matter. Ask for the selected system’s documented suitability for the intended opening and exposure.

Can interior barn door hardware be used outside?

Do not assume so. Specify the outdoor exposure and confirm the finish, track, hangers, fasteners and maintenance requirements for the chosen system. Matching the panel’s appearance is not enough to establish outdoor compatibility.
