Details make the difference

A half door, with a whole lot of possibility

A Dutch door divides into upper and lower sections. Choose the intended interior or exterior application first, then the material, glass and hardware that suit your space.

Interior Dutch doors or exterior Dutch doors?

An interior Dutch door can connect a kitchen, laundry room or office visually while the lower section stays closed. Check the swing of both halves, latch placement and passage width. An exterior Dutch door also needs an assembly suited to outdoor exposure, including the frame, threshold and seals around the perimeter and horizontal meeting edge.

Start with exterior wood Dutch doors for a wood entry design, or compare metal Dutch doors for a different frame and glass appearance. Confirm interior or exterior suitability for the selected model; material alone does not establish weather performance.

Choosing a Dutch door with a screen

A Dutch door can be paired with a compatible screen to admit air while helping keep insects out. Plan the screen with the door’s swing, frame, shelf and hardware so it can open and latch without colliding with either half.

Rustica’s Shoreline Screen Door is designed for use with inswing doors, including compatible Dutch-door installations. It is a separate screen door, not a screen built into the top half. For an upper-half or retractable screen, confirm availability and fit for your exact opening before ordering.

Review the Dutch door installation and hardware guide to coordinate the frame, swing, meeting-edge seals and screen clearances.

Before you choose

Can I order a Dutch door in a custom size?

Custom dimensions are available on selected designs. Send the opening measurements, wall depth, desired swing and interior or exterior application for review. Confirm the selected model’s size limits, frame and hardware before placing the order, especially when adding a shelf or screen.

How do the two halves of a Dutch door stay together?

A connecting bolt or latch joins the upper and lower panels so they can move together. It serves a different purpose from the lock that secures the door to its frame. Check the chosen model’s hardware and alignment requirements so both halves operate and latch correctly.
