What a product photo can’t tell you about a door.

A beautiful room photograph earns your attention. It shows scale, color relationships and the mood a door can help create. What it cannot do is turn the product around, tell you its exact thickness or show what arrives in the box.

Treat the photo as the beginning of your questions. Ask for enough evidence to connect the pictured look to the configuration you are ordering. If a photograph shows a different size, glass option or hardware set, note that difference before you approve the order.

A close-up can show a joint or finish. It cannot certify durability, security, fire performance or sound reduction. Use the relevant documentation for those requirements. Equally, a missing close-up is an information gap to resolve; it is not proof that a product is poor.

The same finish can look different across screens and room lighting. A digital image is useful for narrowing a direction; a physical sample helps you compare the actual material with your flooring, trim and furniture. Ask what the sample represents and what natural variation is expected.

Move the sample between the opening and nearby surfaces at the times of day the room is used. Look at it upright, not only flat on a table. If glass matters to the design, ask to see the selected pattern or sample as well. Consider the view from both directions, especially with a light on behind the door.

A sample does not promise identical grain on every wood component or prove installed performance. It gives you a better basis for choosing an appearance.

Door slab size, frame size, finished opening and rough opening are not interchangeable labels. A dimensioned drawing should tell you what has been measured, the viewing direction and the operating arrangement. Ask the person ordering and the person installing to check the same drawing.

For a sliding system, record the intended panel coverage and travel as well as the opening. For a hinged door, confirm the swing and hardware preparation using the supplier’s terminology. A quick annotated sketch can prevent an ambiguous “left” or “right” from becoming a production decision.

Add your room photographs and the opening information your installer has confirmed. If one detail remains unknown, leave it visible in your notes until it is answered. A clear question is more useful than a confident guess.
