Use Repetition to Create a Deliberate Pattern

Lay out the clavos on a drawing or removable paper template. Even spacing along a rail creates a different impression from clusters at panel corners. Check the pattern with the door both closed and open, where one edge may be more visible.

Calculate quantity from the final layout rather than purchasing by door area. Corners and intersecting rails can share a position; counting each line independently may overestimate the number needed.

Choose Size and Finish Together

A large dark head will read differently against pale wood than a smaller head on a heavily textured finish. Compare the proposed clavos with the handle, hinge finish and any decorative grille. The wood should remain visible enough for the intended balance.
