Slab Replacement or a New Framed Assembly?

Measure the Door and the Frame Separately

Record the existing slab’s actual width, height and thickness, then inspect the jamb opening and clearances. Measure at multiple points to reveal an out-of-square frame. Do not assume a nominal door size describes the old panel precisely.

Document hinge size, spacing and depth, along with the lock bore and latch location. Photos and a dimensioned sketch give the installer a clearer reference than a single width measurement.

Choose Light and Privacy for the Room

A solid panel creates a different visual boundary from a glazed slab. For a bedroom or office, consider the view through the glass under evening lighting, when one room may be much brighter than the other.

If two panels meet in the opening, review interior double doors for the paired configuration. Two independently selected slabs do not by themselves resolve the meeting hardware or frame.

Confirm What Preparation Is Included

Ask which hinges, bores, mortises and finishing steps are included in the chosen order. Slab listings can differ in preparation and optional components. Avoid drilling or trimming until the panel’s construction and permitted modifications are confirmed.

An outdoor opening needs an exterior specification. Use exterior slab doors when the panel will form part of the building envelope.
