Working From Home Tips

Tuesday April 7th, 2020
At first, working from home might have been a nice change. You get to stay in your pajamas, no need to brush your hair and there is an endless amount of snacks at your fingertips. People that normally get to work from home sure do brag about it, but I bet a lot of you are noticing this might not be the “dream” you thought it was. It can be hard to focus on work at home. If you’re anything like me, you’re constantly distracted by things you need to get done around the house. Here are a few tips to help you stay on task:

Make a List

Trying to balance your home and work life in the same environment can be difficult. You can get sidetracked by something that needs to get done at home or something you needed to do for work. Start by making two lists. Label one list “work” and the other list “home.” On your list labeled “work” write out everything you need to do for work.  Then write down the things that need to be done around the house on your list “home.”

During the hours you would normally be at work, try to get done everything checked off on your “work” list. If you get distracted by something at home, put it down on your “home” list and remind yourself that you can get to it later when you would normally be home from work.

Keep a Schedule

You’re working from home and you no longer have to make that commute to the office every day. That seems like a good enough reason to sleep in! Yes, you have a little bit extra time and using it to get more shut-eye isn’t a bad thing. However, too much sleep can make you just as lethargic as too little sleep. Schedule yourself to get the same amount of sleep every night.

Just as important, is having scheduled meals. If you’re eating at random times during the day and night, your body will feel out of sorts. Not feeling like yourself can make working from home more difficult and less productive.

Get Ready

Staying in your lounge clothes sure is comfy, but not necessarily helpful. Changing out of your pajamas can help get you in the mindset that you are going to work. You don’t need to get all dolled up, but even just simply putting on a pair of jeans can make you feel more productive.

Getting out of the clothes that you relax in tells your mind that you’re doing something different now. Just like putting on athletic wear motivates you to workout, getting dressed in something you would normally see people in can help you stay focused and motivated at work.

Working from home comes with benefits, but it can be a challenge. It can be hard to change back and forth from a working to a relaxing mindset. We believe these helpful tips really make a difference.
