A common question among our customers is what the difference is between our bypass and bi parting functionalities available on our barn door hardware. Simple, the bypass allows doors to do just that, “pass” one another which allows them to stack off to one side of an opening. The bypass option is perfect for applications where there isn’t a lot of room off to either side of an opening for one barn door to open all the way (available in double and triple track options). Bi parting systems allow two doors that rest over a single opening to “part” to either side of the opening causing a french-door-esque kind of functionality.
When deciding which functionality is best for you, consider the door opening size and how much room, on the adjacent walls, you have to work with. If you don’t have enough wall space to open your doors off to either side of the opening, go for our bypass system. If you have space on both sides go with our bi parting option. Our bi parting system is also very commonly used over arched doorways.
