How to measure for Door Size

Measuring Doorways With Mouldings

Step 1: Measure from the outside edge of the vertical doorway moulding to the outside edge of the opposite vertical doorway moulding.

Step 2: Measure from the floor to the outside edge of the moulding on the top of the doorway. Subtract 1/2” from the length. This is to ensure the door will have clearance to slide open and closed without interference from the floor.

Note: This is the minimum coverage for the doorway. The door can be larger if desired.

Measuring Doorways Without Mouldings

Step 1: Measure from the vertical edge of the doorway to the opposite vertical edge. Add 4” (2” for each side) for the total width of the door area. This is to ensure the width of the doorway is completely covered by the door

Step 2: Measure from the floor to the edge of the top of the doorway.

Note: This is the minimum coverage for the doorway. The door can be larger if desired.
