Introducing Our Barn Door Collaboration with Kim Lewis

In last week’s blog post we introduced Kim Lewis, an incredible designer who is best known for her work as the Lead Designer for ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” and DIY’s “Tiny House Nation”. Kim is also the designer behind our latest line of location-inspired barn doors. 

We have always loved Kim’s work and the way she is able to inspire and create meaning with her designs. We are thrilled to be collaborating with Kim Lewis and excited to further introduce you to our inspiring project. We first met Kim by supplying her with our products for a project she was doing for Actress Tiffani Amber Thiessen. This led to working on another project with Kim, this time providing hardware for a door she designed. Not only did her door design blow us away, but our followers and customers proved how great it was by making what she had created go viral! We knew immediately that we wanted to collaborate with Kim again and have her join the Rustica family. 

It has been so great to work with Kim to design three barn door styles for three location-inspired tiny houses, resulting in the creation of the Joshua Tree Door, The Marfa Door, and the Palm Springs Door.

Inspiration from Joshua Tree, Palm Springs, and Marfa TX

Each Tiny House (and door) is inspired by real and iconic locations, which heavily influenced Kim as a designer. These doors take in the colors, feel, texture, and atmosphere of their respective locations for beautiful and intricate results. From the Joshua Tree National Park and Palm Springs, California, to Marfa, Texas, each door has a rare and inspired beginning.

Each door started as an idea, then a sketch and a mood board, which then led to the finished barn doors. Each door is unique, beautiful, and the perfect fit for the location from which they are inspired. Not only that but they will brighten and inspire you in your home. Since we are so excited to bring this line to life, we wanted to let you in on a sneak preview of the door designs and the story behind the inspiration.

Joshua Tree

Inspired by the The Joshua Tree, this unique sliding door is the perfect way to bring the beauty of the outdoors inside your home.

Palm Springs

Inspired by the bright colors and bold statements that come to mind when you think of Palm Springs, this door captures the light-hearted spirit of California.

Marfa, Texas

This door was inspired by Marfa, Texas, a quirky little town in west Texas that is popular for its fun and funky feel.

We love being a part of this collaboration and being able to learn with Kim. It has been a pleasure working on these doors, the places they represent, and the unique designs that they convey. We can’t wait to introduce you to each of the doors in the upcoming weeks!
